The General University Hospital (VFN) in Prague is an important medical facility and one of the largest hospitals in the Czech Republic. The General University Hospital is a selected medical, educational and research facility designated by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. It closely cooperates not only with the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, but also with other universities, and thus creates a large base of diagnostic and therapeutic care as well as science and research. In addition to providing health care, the General University Hospital is the main teaching base of the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague, and one of the most important scientific workplaces in the field of therapeutic and diagnostic methods in the Czech Republic. The hospital has the longest tradition of academic medicine in the Czech Republic, and since its foundation in 1790 to the present, it is the largest research medical institution in the Czech Republic.
